Jedi Starfighter and Vulture Droid

Postby Superiorraw on Sun Jul 25, 2010 9:45 pm

Hey Guys,
I thought I'd share this with you seeing as though its another completion by myself. Way back in January when i inherited this Lego collection I'd posted up on flickr, photos of sorted Lego. Someone told me that with the pieces I had, I could probably build the Jedi Starfighter and Vulture droid (Set #7256).

So it's been something i've worked on slowly over the last few months. I copied the inventory down off Bricklink and saved the instructions from Brickfactory into my Bookmarks. :)

I was able to gradually work out which pieces I needed to complete the build. I ordered some pieces from Bricklink using the Wanted list feature as well as sometimes trading for Parts in return with a friend (Thanks Mitt).

Finally here it is. It looks most impressive. I know that I am mostly a City Lego fan but I still appreciate some of the super cool design concepts space and Star Wars have on their builds. I've recently also been shown that i also might have a Tie Fighter, Snowspeeder and/or X-wing.

I do realise that in terms of length of time spent and chasing pieces I could of probably bid on one on ebay and done it that way, but i kind of enjoyed restoring it using the parts i had as well as trading/bringing in the pieces to complete it.

Hope you like the pictures (mods if theres already a topic regarding this set in this section feel free to move it).
In friendship

Nice review Rich! :) I am a big fan of these Jedi Starfighters and i wish TLC had made more of them. Did you try to get stickers for the set? The droid looks very uninteresting without them.

I will say that the Starfighter should have the wings bent slightly down with the click hinges. ;)

I have bought alot of sets from ebay that were not complete (you get a better deal that way) and also find it rewarding to buy parts and sorce out spares to complete it.

Thanks for sharing. :)

Ah yes!
Thanks matey, I remember seeing a picture in the catalogue of the wings bent slightly down. So I will take a picture of this soon. My friend recently asked me if the vulture droid stands up. I think this is shown in the catalogue on brickfactory as well (this is where I got my instructions from).

You'll have to forgive me greatly for my noobness in this area. I havent watched any of the recent SW films at all and the only memories I have from SW was the toys in the 80s as a kid.

I plan to take a picture of the droid and the Starfighter again, so i'll post them up here when they are done.

Completing sets by trading and scavenging can be very rewarding, alot of my lego comes from other peoples collections so i get alot of mish mash sets, seeing peoples comments on flickr about my lego hauls makes me want to chase down those last few parts to complete an inventory and then view the build instructions from Brickfactory.com.

Even though I am predominantly a big fan of Lego City, i still appreciate the coolness factor of some of the designs of these vehicles. I also like how they take regular lego shape bricks and utilise them into looking sci-fi or part of a sci-fi type vehicle. :)
Thanks for the comment

Nice work!
You're right that the treasure hunt way of piecing sets together is really good fun - I've found most of this set in a bag of bricks that I got from a charity shop too.
Luckily my mrs goes out every few days to a bunch of charity shops locally and usually brings back a bag of assorted bricks each week. The best bit is working out what you've got when you get a random bag full, an exciting bit of detective work on peeron :D
My favourite find was a 6209 slave 1 with the most common being 6206 tie interceptor which I've got 3 of (and enough parts to make a complete 1).
Getting something you want or something unexpected is like a reward for having to fish out all the megablox :D I'm still hoping for a bag of classic space or arkham asylum at some point ;)

Great pics too - the space baseplates with the dark background in the first few pics looks really effective.
