Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

Postby Superiorraw on Tue Apr 27, 2010 6:03 pm

I got myself a few pirate goodies in the form of minifigure accessories in a recent ebay lot, and it got me thinking about the POTC film., Jack Sparrow, Will Turner, Cpt. Hector Barbossa, Miss Elizabeth Swann., Commodore Norrington. Plenty of characters there.
I know that during the height of its success the toys came out, action figures/playsets, I was wondering why Lego didn't try and strike a deal with them to make POTC Lego? Sorry if this has been discussed previously, but this makes plenty of sense, lots of people like the soldiers and pirates lego, and the ships and boats that appear in the POTC film would be great as lego sets.

Has anyone made themselves POTC lego Minifigures from the available minifigures, customs? :D

Well Lego didn't show any interest in the POTC license when the first movie came out, to be honest the first movie kinda caught everyone by surprise. Plus of course Lego didn't want to start producing pirate sets again.

When the second film came out Megabloks had struck a deal to produce sets and as such Lego couldn't touch POTC at all, many believe that Lego only started producing pirate sets again because of the impact that POTC had on children.

No pun intended but i feel Lego kinda missed the boat on that one.

Great pun mate and I totally agree with you !!

First, pirate has been a theme that a lot of hardcore fans have been wanting for a long time and Lego should have thought that pirates + Depp + Bruckheimer would make a best seller !!
Lego didn't really need to take the licence, they just should have released a new pirate wave when the first movie came out OR it could just have taken it to prevent competitors to take it after.

Did they do that ? Off course not...

Then came the second movie which was sure to be a huge hit and Lego still did nothing: no pirate sets and worse Megablocks bought the license...

Then we know what happened, Lego released a pirate line when the pirate interest has dried out, its really a ridiculous management here. I hope the big heads at Lego think on how many trhey could have made, oh well, thats clearly an epic fail !!

Oh wow!
harsh. to be fair i've always seen lego pirate sets on ebay competed for alot, so theres plenty of interest. I know recently I was in entertainer and they still have Pirate lego available.

As for your pun Vad your absolutely right, still even after the 1st POTC license, why didnt Lego persue them for interest? I think the 2 combined would of worked wonders, could you imagine the playsets made out of lego from the 1st film!!

Gosh I think I would be broke financially for life. :D I wonder if anyone has done any characters from the film out of the Pirate lego available, or if anyone made the ships from the film?

Damn i am sooo not a fan of the Jack custom.....what the hell was i thinking with that label decal on his face.

As for Davey, i still have him and even though he's looking dated i still think the sculpting is great....even if i say so myself :D

oh yeah!
I want! :D
C'mon Lego get some more Pirate stuff out!! :D

I think that would be a really good project for someone to undertake. Must be a die hard pirate fan though. Those customs are cool. Theres so many photos and videos of the POTC characters now I'm certain you could do at least 6 or so of the characters from the film in Lego minifigures.
You could use the Lego Pirates/Soldiers sets as the background for your adventure. :D

It's taken me a while but my interest in Pirate stuff has increased over the last two weeks or so. I'd definately like to have 2 or 3 Pirates in my minifigure collection.

Just out of curiosity, who was your fave character from the film? and what was your favourite part from the 1st film?

I love the bit where Will Turner and Jack Sparrow steal the Interceptor and before that Norrington says 'he's got to be the worst pirate i've ever seen' moments after stealing the interceptor one of them says
"thats gotta be the best pirate i've ever seen' and Norrington looks sharply at him and says 'it would appear so' :D haha

My favorite character in the film was definitely the pirate who handled the bombs. I know he's a random character but he was my favorite, throwing around those oh so classic black round bombs with the fuses. Its just absolutely the best.
