8056 Monster Crab Clash

Postby xzanfr » Sun Apr 04, 2010 1:28 am

Name: 8056 Monster Crab Clash
Price: 4.97 (but I got a whopping 50p off)
<box>

I bought this set on a late night curry & beer mission in tesco, and couldn't resist - mainly as it had a number of parts that I needed for a MOC, so I thought I'd show this set for anyone else in a similar position ;)

It's probably noted for the following:
1. it has the 'crab ring'
2. it doesn't feature any interesting minifigs ;)

Crab ring:

The box contains 2 bags, a sticker sheet and a manual, as expected:

The minifig is the diver, which features a double sided face and the usual interesting printing:

I really feel the diving headgear is handy for space mocs - it has a kind of old school, bulky feel to it that a simple helmet and airbags doesn't have.

The atalntis element is the brick built crab itself, with moving pincers and legs. Not an especially exciting build but it had a lot of parts that I needed. Basically it's some Y-shaped technic connectors on a plate:

Of interest are the these parts:
orange spikes, black rubber claws, silver 'old style' teeth and sloping, modified 2 x 4

All together:

It was an easy build and, despite mine having naan bread residue on it will be handy for a few parts. Not really something that I'd recommend as it's simply a diver and some bricks but a fun diversion never the less.

curry+beer+Lego=a good evening :D

As always, the printed head is useful. I don't like rest of the set aside from the key. I don't know why Lego is saying collect all the keys by getting all the sets...When in a few short months ALL the keys will be included in ONE set. That set is the only set I'm going to be getting...All the rest is just red gunk.

:D
It does seem weird that the keys have no other use than to open the little gate of atlantis currently. By including them all in the main atlantis base it seems to defeat the object a bit.
I had really hoped for some more key opening sets - especially since they have made a new mold for the key-fitting-rock-piece. Oh well..

Thanks, mate :)
The set was really bought for the parts, especially the teeth and orange spikes as I have a cunning plan for them.... ;)

Great review of a set that i am not fond of if i'm honest, truth be told it's a good set but it just dosent appeal to me.

But i can see that it will appeal to many others and will most likely sell really well, which is good for Lego and us as it keeps Lego in business :D

Thanks for the review Gary,

not a set for me either, but I agree it has some nice parts, I like the orange parts best!
