Creator 6753 - Yellow Car Transporter

Postby JetfireUK » Sat Jul 31, 2010 3:47 pm

Hi Folks,

Last weekend I treated myself to the large Creator 6735 kit which builds three models; a car transporter, a pick up truck and a crane. The set comes with 1294 pieces and retails around £64.99 which works out around 20p a brick. The set is predominately made up with yellow, black, dark grey and light grey bricks.

This week I took my time buildng my first model of the kit - the pick up truck. This model was the one that caught my eye as I prefer the style of cab and I was quite impressed with the build. I intend to build all three models to get my money's worth out of the kit.

Anyway, enough rambling here are a few shots of the finished model.

This shot shows the front of both the pick up truck and the white car that accompanies it. From the manual you don't really get to see the car so I thought that this would give folks a better feel of the car. It's a 10 stud wide vehicle and it's pretty nice - it reminds me of an American muscle car.

Image

Here's a rear view shot of both vehicles. I really like the attention to detail with the light clusters on both vehicles. There's a fair amount of technic parts which make up the crane which makes the build more fun.

Image

This shot shows the pick up truck towing the white car - the red dials on the side of the truck help operate the crane and winch. I also modelled Barry the Zombie to give an idea of scale. The winch can't really support the weight of the car but the technic parts enable you to place the front wheels of the car and help tow the vehicle.

Image

I thought that I'd show you a bit of the interior of the truck by using Barry the Zombie. You could use City figures but they're a little small in scale. There are modelled seats, steering columns and working doors.

Image

Here's a shot of the interior of the white car - again I've used Barry the Zombie to show that you could use the City figures.
There's seating and a steering wheel.

Image

I finally added this shot to show the scale compared to one of the Indiana Jones sets. As you can see you get quite a lot of bricks for your money. Overall, considering that this model isn't the main seller of the kit I think that it's still a very decent kit. I took my time building this over the period of a week and didn't rush anything but even if you wanted to build it quickly I reckon it would take at least a couple of hours. The finished kit is sturdy and the added car gives a bit more play value for younger builders.

I'll add to this thread when I build the next model this coming week. :)

Hey, thanks for the great review!

I really like that they added the white car here, it adds quite a lot in terms of playability. Considering the Creator sets aren't meant to be playsets usually that's a nice touch Lego added in this case.

I'm looking forward to the next model, I hope we'll get some more great pictures like the one of the truck! :)

Thanks for the review JetfireUK (and Barry)!
As an alternative model this is really good, in fact I actually prefer it to the car transporter. It shows off where creator sets are at there best which is by having lots of useful parts to make all sorts of things.
I'm also looking forward to further pics from this set.

Cheers for the great review :geek: That truck is really looking great, it kind of reminds me the old Model Teams vehicles ;)

Out of the 3 models, that is clearly for me the best looking one by far :geek: I'm not a fan of the box model and the other huge crane.

Also its fun to see the zombie put in good use :D

BTW: I changed your topic title to have the correct set n° ;)

Hmmm... I some how missed this review?!?

That really is a great alternate model and as yoda said probably better that the main set model. Even if it it not really minifig scale it is still a great looking set.

Thanks for the review! :)

Hi Folks,

Thanks for the positive comments on this thread. Real life and other hobbies have meant that I haven't had a chance to build up the second model from this kit until this week. Anyway - here's the second model - the crane:

This shot gives a look of the crane - the model is quite big and imposing and you can see the yellow technic rods which hold up the crane arm. You can just make out Barry the Zombie swinging around on the crane hook. He's a big kid!

Image

In the second shot I've removed the cabin roof of the truck. Unfortunately although there are yellow seats modelled in the cab the roof is too short to enable you to use lego men. You might just be able to make out Barry the Zombie in the left hand window. He's not a happy camper.

Image

This shot shows the cabin for the crane arm with Dave the Ninja showing that this does fit a lego man. There's also a couple of levers for play. The crane arm can swivel 360 degrees and is held on by a technic rod. The parts enabling the crane arm to move isn't fixed so you can remove the crane arm but it's stable when the crane arm is slotted on the technic rod.

Image

This shot shows how long the crane arm can extend to - it's pretty long and the black bricks at the back of the crane ensure that the whole thing is stable. You might also notice Barry the Zombie by the back part of the crane arm - he's pointing out the lever which holds the crane gear in place. If this gear was pushed in the opposite direction the weight of the object would pull the hook to the ground. Quite a clever but simple method to keep things in place. Good thinking Lego. :)

Image

This shot shows the back of the crane and is nicely detailed. It reminds me of the rear light clusters on the first truck.

Image

Finally this shot shows the scale of the crane compared to the Indiana Jones vehicle. It does show how big the crane is and it's quite a hefty piece of Lego. The only downside is that there's no steering in the cab it doesn't affect the playablility.

Image

Final thoughts; this is a nice model but it's not as strong a design as the pick up truck or the car transporter. Then again as it's a third design it's still nice and is a little less complex compared to the other two designs. Hopefully I'll get the car transporter built soon!

What do you think?

Thanks for the new review mate, really enjoyed reading this one!

I think it's a good model, tho they should have designed the cockpit to fit a minifigure if you ask me. Apart from that it's looking really good!

Hi Benny,

I'm glad that you liked the review. I agree that for the sake of one more brick the cabin would have accepted a mini figure but even so the cockpit seems a little cramped compared to the like of the break down truck.

I've already dismantled the crane and I'm going to make a start on the leading model for this kit this forthcoming week. :)

Cheers for that great review ;)

I think that crane is the kleast interesting model of the 3 - its probably due to the fact that Lego released so many of them Mf sized and Technic.

I'm really looking forward to the main model ;)

Hi Folks,

It's been ages since I've managed to update this thread so I thought that I'd finally get the main kit built from this set. Is it a winner? Hopefully this will help you decide!

Here's a shot of the main cab - it's a nice build and features some nice touches such as opening doors, angled wing mirrors and moveable steering via a mechanism in the roof. From this shot you can see that the roof removed so that you can view things better.

Image

Here's a shot of Barry the Zombie trying to get the cab in first gear - the poor undead devil can't reach the clutch!

Image

Here's a shot of the car trailer - it's quite an involved build even thought it's mostly made up of technic pieces. The second shot gives an idea of the mechanism (great modelling by Barry) that allows the top part of the trailer to folder down to allow cars to drive up to the top part of the trailer. It's a simple design but it's sturdy and effortlessly enables you to shift the top part of the trailer up and down. The only negative part of this entire build is the tail gate as it snaps off fairly easily. Still, it's a minor point.

Image
Image

Here's a shot of the entire vehicle - it's pretty hefty and huge and virtually all the pieces of the kit are used for this model. The second shot gives an idea of scale against minifigure vehicles.

Image
Image

Finally I thought to include a couple of shots of the two bonuses that come with this model - the two cars. The first shot gives you an idea of the scale against the cab and the second against the scale of a mini figure. My personal favourite is the white car but the red one is also nice. It's good to have two cars for the trailer so that you can get a bit more playability of that part of the set.

Image
Image

So, now that I've finally built all three models, what do I think? For the price of the kit I think that you get a nice mix of pieces that enable you to build three distinctive kits. The headliner kit uses virtually everything in the box and has nice touches such as the steering mechanism. A lot of thought has gone into the aesthetics of the truch and the cab itself would be a great kit, The second kit, the tow truck, is my personal favourite. It doesn't use as many parts but the cab is great and the adjustable winch at the back aids playabililty along with the car. The final kit is a bit of an after thought but is still fun to build and is unique amongst the three kit builds. Overall I'd give this a solid 8.5 out of 10. There's a lot of potential and two of the three models are satisfying to build. Adding the cars to both the transporter and tow truck are a nice touch and help add playability - my favourite being the car built with the tow truck.

Anyhow, I hope you liked the review!

Cheers,

Oli

Hey Oli, sorry for the late reply and thanks for the review! I like the last model quite good and the two extra cars are nice.
Great action shots with the Zombi btw, made the review more fun to read! :)

Cheers,
