New Marvel & DC licensed sets in 2012

Postby BrickBob Studpants » Wed Jul 20, 2011 10:42 am

Batman returns next year... and he's not alone: http://www.variety.com/article/VR111804 ... LatestNews (thanks go to EB member medoka for posting the link over there)
Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, the Green Lantern, the Joker, Bane, Harley Quinn and Lex Luthor are among the 13 figs we get in January...
I'm impressed I have to say, even though I hope this doesn't mean that the Avengers rumors can now be regarded as falsified ;)

Edit: And here's our first pic: Image
(Thanks go to commdr_neyo on EB)

Hell yeah, Superman!

But seriously, I'd have preferred Marvel over DC. Iron Man>all. :D

Believe it or not, but the Superheroes line also includes Marvel characters, at least according to fbtb.net (http://www.fbtb.net/2011/07/20/lego-sup ... es-marvel/ )

The first sets/minifigs are going to be revealed at SDCC this week 8-)

Thanks from bringing us this news. This is fantastic as lego really lends itself to comic book characters :)

I wonder if it has anything to do with the recent news on brothers brick about TT games after more staff . If so then we can expect some decent games too.

Oh boy if this is true then i really cant wait now, i have wished for figs based on the new marvel movie universe since the first iron man movie.

Two of the world’s most iconic brands are joining forces as The LEGO Group, world leader in high quality construction toys, and Marvel Entertainment, LLC, a global character -based entertainment company, announced a wide ranging strategic licensing deal. Through the multi-year agreement starting as of January 1st, 2012, Marvel has granted LEGO Group the rights to develop a distinct Marvel branded construction toy collection — LEGO SUPER HEROES — which will bring the characters, vehicles and action of Marvel’s renowned universe to the world of LEGO® build-and-play adventure. The LEGO SUPER HEROES Marvel collection’s initial construction sets, minifigures and buildable characters are scheduled to launch in May of 2012.

The LEGO SUPER HEROES Marvel collection will spotlight three Marvel franchises – Marvel’s The Avengers movie, and X-Men and Spider-Man classic characters. The LEGO Marvel’s The Avengers movie line brings such ever popular Marvel characters as Iron Man, The Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye, Loki and Black Widow to LEGO minifigure form. The LEGO X-Men collection includes minifigure comic versions of Wolverine, Magneto, Nick Fury and Deadpool, while the LEGO Spider-Man sets offer minifigure comic versions of Spider-Man, and Doctor Octopus. The first buildable characters in the LEGO SUPER HEROES collection are highlighted by Captain America, The Hulk and Iron Man. Select figures will be unveiled in the LEGO booth (#2829) during Comic-Con International at the San Diego Convention Center July 21-24.

“Our partnership with Marvel helps us continue to deliver some of the best and most constructible Super Hero stories of all time,” said Jill Wilfert, vice president, licensing and entertainment for The LEGO Group. “We’re thrilled to partner with Marvel to create creative, constructive play sets for builders, fans and collectors alike.”

Joann Mclaughlin, Executive Vice President Toys & Hardlines, Marvel Entertainment, commented, “The partnership with LEGO Group furthers Marvel’s strategy to align our brand with the best in class leaders across various industries who have the global marketing expertise and distribution clout to stand out in the retail environment. This deal solidifies the already robust presence of our characters and the overall Marvel brand in the ever important toy category.”

The retail debut of the Marvel-inspired LEGO SUPER HEROES collection is timed to coincide with the highly anticipated Summer 2012 blockbuster movie release of Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Pictures feature film Marvel’s The Avengers.

Pics of the (preliminary) minifigs can be marveled at here (pun intended 8-) ): http://www.toyark.com/news/san-diego-co ... sdcc-4426/

Actionfigures à la Hero Factory are also part of the license, as can be seen here: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.p ... opic=57920

Now Marvel can officially be added to the title of this thread :D

Holly cow, seriously this is just amazing news, I'm still drooling over the keyboard :geek:

Man this uis going to be a superhero freaking madness: DC & Marvel, now thats just sweet.

Was looking for the pics (cheers BBS) and they all look great I have to say. I'm a tad disappointed with Hulk but there is nothing Lego can do  I hope for a Bruce transforming fig :geek:

We already knew about Marvel (maybe a tad more than speculations) but I didn't see DC comiing :D I guess Lego wanted to not renew the POTC crap: surfing on the superhero wave is really a smart eonomical move that pleases a lot of us :) Congrats Lego really !!

Well after seeing the pics im pretty happy so far.

To me the Hulk fig is near perfect, i was worried that we would get a small minifig version and that would have sucked as the Hulk needs to be bigger than the other figs.

Tor and Captain America both look good in prelim form, interesting to see that Thor has his costume from the Thor movie and not his new one that he has in the Avengers movie. What seems strange to me is that the Cap design seems to be the other way around, in the pic he has a costume that looks like the one he will have in the Avenegers movie and not his movie version.

Now onto my biggest concern in the marvel side of figs, this Iron Man looks stupid!! Sure the design on the body is superb but the helmet is way to big, it look like hes gonna tip over at any moment. Lego should of made this much smaller or used a printed head.

Wolverine is another good fig, shame his claws need to be held but oh well.

As for the DC line well they are really great again, i love the new Joker look! However im a little surprised to see that Superman looks so plain, i had hoped that they would have at least printed his boots on him.

Like an idiot, I didn't read the TOC properly... only open to US residents... I did this with the thought it might be nice for kids to have something free to colour in while they wait for those awesome sets...

If anyone would like it, for their kids to colour in, please feel free to download the full size version of Lego Superman from my my Flickr page.
