Postby BrickBob Studpants » Fri Jul 22, 2011 11:56 pm

First bits of information about next year's sets have been brought to us from SDCC: http://jediinsider.com/index.php?catid=8&itemid=13657

As of now, one set has been revealed, a redesigned TIE Fighter with new Imperial minfigs and a R5 unit with accurate head. A Queen Amidala fig is also going to be released :geek:

The TIE Fighter is really nice. But, it just looks like it's in no-man's land. The size and detailing is somewhere between system and UCS.

I also wonder where we'll see Queen Amidala. The fact that she must be standing up at all times makes me wonder if it's some sort of playset verses a ship.

It is interesting that the detailing is inbetween an UCS and system set..... I always knew they had system and Ultimate Collectors Series but what if this could be a merge like a Collectors Series, just not Ultimate.

I hope so because that would be awesome, all they would have to do is make more accurate and greebled models on ships. I will pay more fo accurate models especially for an accurate X Wing and hopefully that will be the next redone model down the line. The last TIE 2006, the last X WING 2006, pattern? Now yes the xwing is still in stock but rumors are abound that they have been going out of stock in some countries and are not being restocked :? :D ?

In their press release they said they would have 6 sets for Jan 2012, along with a "number of exclusives."

Lego always has had special editions but this sound interesting, because I dont remember them telling us about the special editions before, so they've probably got something really special up their sleeves for us. :geek: Or mabye I am over reacting but optimism is not a bad thing!

Thanks for the news. But one thing. Only 6 sets? Hopefully we will at least get one clone wars set.

No problem here is the link with all the news directly from the lego panel themselves. They said we would get a couple exclusives on top of the 6 so it will be around the normal number of sets we usually get. I would assume the tie is going to be an exclusive due to the fact that the phantom menace is probably going to be what most sets are based on next year, leaving the clone wars and OT to be exclusives. I could see sets from episode 1 being exclusives as well though, either way I am excited.

Now thats really interesting news !! Finally a Queen Amidala fig :geek:

That Tie looks amazing but the size is really big IMO. I loved the older versions that were a perfect size. The level of details is really great and thats probably a trend that will start with the most iconic ships I reckon. I think that Lego should have redesigned the Tie Bomber.

Like always its really exciting to get these news, need more asap :D

What I was thinking after seeing more pics of the Queen minifigure, is that mabye her set would be an exclusive. I think it is highly possible espicially if it is her ship we get.

This has been posted by a long term member over at EB. So It all sounds pretty believable. I love the idea of battle packs having 2 factions in one pack! :geek:

I'll sum up what I've presented here as facts. Unfortunatly I cannot, or at this point rather don't want to, prove them with pictures or by naming sources. So I guess you'll have to take my word for it.

1.) Lego will change the battlepacks to include both sides. The reason behind this is that they want "conflict in a box". The kids should be able to spend they're allowance on a small set and be able to do battles with just that set. As it is now they need to buy both battle packs to do that.

One battle pack is an Endor Battle pack with 2 rebel troopers, 1 scout trooper with a speeder and a storm trooper as well as a tree with a flickfire launcher.

The other Battle pack is a CW battlepack featuring 2 Commando Droids, 1 ARC Trooper and one ARF Trooper. The Structure is a small republic artillery Cannon.

2.) There will be a total of 11 Lego Star Wars sets in stores in 1st half year of 2012. This includes 2 Special Edition (Store exclusives) sets and 3 sets from a new concept but excludes any UCS sets, polybags or any other promos.

Of theese sets 6 will be OT, 2 CW, 1 EP III and 2 EP I sets

3.) The new concept is a sort of collectible that are standalone but may expand on each other. The set includes a display stand a minifigure and buildable parts of which one can be displayed either standing or hanging. The price of theese sets will be $9.99/€9.99. There will be three of theese sets released per half year.

In the first wave one is clearly OT and the other two could be said is Episode I. But the concept is more Star Wars in general than related to a specific movie.

4.) The Queen Amidala fig will not be released in the first half year. But I guess that's no suprise as the fig shown at comic con was a pretty rough prototype.

Thanks for the news, Mutley.

I've been looking forward to Endor battle packs for a long time, but I think I'm even more excited about the CW battle pack now. Commando Droids!

I guess we'll see...

"new concept is a sort of collectible": now that sounds interesting !! cheap sets are always welcome :geek:

So 2012 will be a great year I hope ;)

I was hoping for a more efficient way to build up an army of scout troopers, but hopefully this will make their BL cost go down.
